Israel's two chief rabbis staged an unprecedented political protest

Some 3,000 rabbis launched a strike three weeks ago over a recently
passed austerity package in which the religious affairs' budget was slashed from
200 million shekels (45 million dollars) in 2002 to 70 million (15 million
dollars) for 2004.
The strike took an unexpected twist when Ashkenazi chief rabbi Yona
Metzger and his Sephardic counterpart, Shlomo Amar, set up there tent outside
Sharon's office in Jerusalem.
