Four US Soldiers dead in two bomb attacks

Four American soldiers, one just newly arrived, were killed and another wounded in separate bomb attacks in Baghdad, a US military official said Sunday. A home made bomb exploded late Saturday night killing three troops and injuring a fourth as they patrolled an area in Southeast Baghdad, the official said. "three task force 1st armoured division soldiers were killed and one wounded when their vehicle struck an IED  (Improvised Explosive Device)," she said.

A second bomb exploded at about 6:30 am (0330 gmt) on Sunday in the Iraqi capital, injuring one soldier from the 1st infantry division, the official said. "the soldier was taken to the 31st combat hospital where he died," she added.

The official was unable to give further details about the latest attack at present, but said the 1st infantry division (1id) soldier had only just arrived in the country. In contrast, the 1st armoured division has been in Iraq for almost one year.

It has been a bad weekend for the US army's 1id, which is replacing the 4id as part of the biggest troop rotation since World War II .On Saturday morning, two us soldiers were killed and several wounded, some of them badly, in an attack on an army convoy in the centre of the northern city of Tikrit -- the hometown of former President Saddam Hussein. Added to an official pentagon tally, the latest deaths raises to 274 the number of US soldiers killed in action since US President George W.
